You don't think checking your emails or the news every day is important until you can't do it anymore...Also, listening to the 2nd half of this podcast... you say "why are we afraid of death? is it something our parents teach us?"Had you considered evolution? Those that aren't afraid of death die more. Don't procreate more. Therefore there's less of them. Eventually this means there's none of them and everyone left is afraid of death...

I didn’t think it would be. You would eventually adjust... hmm...I went on holiday in the summer to South Africa, and I hadn't really prepared myself for how low-tech it would be. I went from emailing, texting, blogging all the time to absolute zero. It was quite a shock to the system - to the extent that my older brother thought I really had a serious problem switching off... I guess I just didn't prepare enough!

you say you don’t know what you would do if the internet suddenly went away. If you're interested in exploring the subway system, you might enjoy these articles about exploring the Toronto subways on Infiltration.org.And actually I'm going to go ahead and recommend you read Access All Areas since I have a feeling that urban exploration will appeal to your subverse nature.

If still in the midst of listening to your show but I’ll post this comment before I forget. I am struck by the universality of the Peruvian musicians. In every city, at every street fair and in every subway, there they are.I also have been thinking about how we are becoming an overly documented world. When virtually everything everywhere is recorded either on video or audio where do you go when you just want to be alone and scratch your butt without it showing up on YouTube the next day.

Great show today. It's a difficult book to sum up- but the idea of our image being seen and used the world over, without our even being aware of it. If somehow it were possible to compile all the pictures that exist of us it would be a pretty incredible art project...

This podcast reminded me of the book Immortality by Milan Kundera.
