The Montreal Gazette is planning a local tech blog
Sorry, I’ve got no links as of yet, but I met with Roberto Rocha, author of the recent piece The Invisible Industry, today. He says the Gazette have agreed to launch a blog focusing on the local technology industry, which he hopes will gain local entrepreneurs and early adopters some exposure.
Weirdly, it also turns out Roberto has been playing capoeira for a little longer than I have– small world, eh. Anyway, I’m looking forward to seeing what they put together. The way I see it, this is probably the best thing the Gazette will have had available in a while.

I think this is a great move by the Gazette, and frankly something Canadian newspapers have traditionally been very bad at. With some notable exceptions (Mark Evans and Mathew Ingram who are also not surprisingly part of the Mesh crew and active members of the community they cover), I don’t think there has been a lot of focus on discovering some of our made in Canada projects. Unfortunately most Canadian media like to wait until after our projects get some media attention south of the border, and then too often enjoy taking a skeptical view of the Canadian’s projects chance for success against US players. Unfortunately, if it’s coming from the Gazette it will probably be badly done — you’ll need an ID and password to read it, it won’t be searchable, and it will be full of ads from top to bottom.
Hopefully not, but the whole Canada.com experience is unspeakably bad.
