The searching Bear!

Welcome to Manhunt!

Hi there! If it's your first time on this site, be sure to check out our rules for information on the game itself. Feel free to drop us a line at manhunt.montreal@gmail.com if you have any questions or comments, or if you'd like to be added to our mailing list for Manhunt news and invites. Come on out and we'll be glad to hunt you down!

Manhunt Holiday Hunting

Saturday, December 16th, 5pm

McGill College and de Maisonneuve

Boundaries: Maisonneuve to Ste-Catherine, Mansfield to Aylmer

City sidewalks, busy sidewalks, dressed in holiday style, in the air there’s a feeling of… chasing your asses down and tagging you orange-armbanded punk kids.

What better way to get into the holiday spirit than by playing urban hide-and-seek on one of the busiest shopping days of the year—right in front of the busiest shopping area in the city? Yeah, it’s going to be mental. It’s going to be fucking fun.

p.s. Yes, it’s winter. Stop being a pussy and dress warmly and get yourself out of the house!

Manhunt McGill Ghetto Recap

Yeah, it’s winter. Yeah, it’s cold. Truthfully, I wasn’t even sure *I* wanted to go out on that cold and windy day myself—but once I got there, and found the toughest of the pack awaiting my arrival, I knew we’d be in for a good round. And indeed we were. Manhunt’s running all winter long, folks; pussies need not apply.

Manhunt: McGill Ghetto

Saturday, Dec 2, 5pm

Meet-up: MILTON GATES (University and Milton)

Boundaries: Milton-Prince Arthur, University-Parc (AKA Robert Bourassa)

Looking for new ways to procrastinate on your term papers and exam studying? End of semester = time to get your noses out of the books and your asses into Manhunt! We're playing in the McGill Ghetto this time, and as those of you who have played there before know this spot is rife with awesome secret alleys—always perfect for hunting unsuspecting students down! Tell all your friends to stop studying and get their pale, skinny selves out of their dorm rooms (nerd alert!) and go enjoy some fresh air and good old-fashioned deceptive, regressive gaming. See you then!

Love,

Amy

PLEASE NOTE: Once again, the first game will start PROMPTLY at 5:15. Last one to get there before 5:15 is IT!

Manhunt: The Sketchiest Part of Town

Wow. This was way up at the top of the awesome scale. Though I may have confused a few alley-dwellers and been mistaken for a sex worker (happens all the time), this was one of the best rounds we’ve played. Great turnout, lots of running, and abundance of sketchiness. Good times were had by all, not only by Manhunters, but also by the cast of local characters who became the audience to our urban brand of hide-and-seek. Thanks for such a great turnout and for keeping the game fresh and fun, everyone!

-Amy

Manhunt: The Sketchiest Part of Town

Ste-Catherine & Ste-Elizabeth

Saturday Nov 18, 5pm

Confuse crackheads and pose as a squeegee kid or prostitute to avoid getting caught! With our orange armbands and a mission to have fun, we take over our streets once again and turn them into Manhunt territory.

The boundaries for this game are the picturesque part of town otherwise known as **the sketchiest part of the city**: St-Laurent to St-Denis and Rene-Levesque to Maisonneuve (see the map if you’re too sweet and innocent to never have cruised for drugs or hookers before).

Beers and crack smoking to follow the game. Hope to see you all out!

PLEASE NOTE: The first game will start PROMPTLY at 5:15. Last one to get there before 5:15 is IT!

Nov 4th Game Round-Up

The game near the Bell Centre was a lot of fun. Though we won’t say the sun rises and sets with Manhunt, it seems pretty convenient it’s now, well, setting with Manhunt. Welcome to the newcomers… hope the regulars hunted after you accordingly. Hope everyone had a great time!

Manhunt Montreal Canadiens

St Jacques & Peel

Saturday, Nov 4th **5pm**

So as terrific as the last round was, there was something I was upset about. I had to miss the last (fantastic) period of the Habs game. This is just not right. So as great as that Manhunt was, I had to find a way to step it up a notch this round, while also not missing the game. And it came to me in a dream: Manhunt Montreal Canadiens. The upcoming round of Manhunt happens to fall on a home game (Montreal vs. New Jersey). The Habs game will be played at 7pm at the Bell Centre. Manhunt will be played at 5pm near the Bell Centre (check out the map). Guaranteed by the time we’re into the second game, the area will be swarming with Habs jerseys and fans. Whether you’re a hockey fan or not, it’ll be intense to invade their parking lots and stealthily hide and hunt amid the masses heading to the Bell Centre. We’ll go grab some beers and watch THEIR game after OUR game.

Are you reeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeaaaadddddy?

Manhunt: In the Park After Dark

Recap

This event was a great success! An excellent turnout of park hiders and hunters made for a really satisfying game. The casual dog walkers and cyclers were puzzled, to say the least, by 25 or so orange-clad kids descending upon their placid park for some intense hunting and hiding. Climbing trees was not off-limits and definitely taken advantage of. The dynamics of the game inside the park change completely, and there were more than a few long dashes around the lake (I’m still catching my breath!). We’ll definitely set up another round of play in the future inside an urban park. Great to see friends (old and new) out—a good time was had by all after. Thanks guys, for making this so much fun!

Manhunt: After Dark in a Park!!

Parc Lafontaine

Saturday, Oct 21st, ***9pm***

Yes, you read it right; we're going to play at night. (And yeah, I gots mad rhyming skillz) Parc Lafontaine, peeps. Check out our MAP for both the boundaries and meeting point (just look for the orange armbands). We play at 9pm, followed by a party chez some Manhunt players. This round will be unlike any we've played in Montreal, so make sure you don't miss out on the after-dark action!

Keep visiting our site and checking out our MySpace page.

Old Montreal Round-Up

This round was awesome. Great weather + fun location + good turnout = good game. The alleyways of Old Montreal were inundated with 20-odd hunters and prey, confusing tourists and discovering new hiding places around old buildings. Great to see both regulars and newbies, and looking forward to seeing you all next time!

Old Montreal Manhunt

October 7th, 5pm

St-Jacques & St-Sulpice (Place d'Armes across from the Notre-Dame Basilica)

Old Montreal has proven itself to be a favoured spot among Manhunters, so we'll head to an as-of-yet unhunted section of this little jewel. The territory will cover Place d'Armes, the Notre Dame Basilica, some statue I don't remember the name of, and a plethora of cobblestone streets and alleys. Prime hiding grounds, as seen on our map. We'll meet at Place d'Armes. Newcomers -- look for the orange armbands. Regulars -- don't scare the newcomers (before the game starts, that is). I hope those of you who missed last week are as pumped as I am for this round. Keep visiting our site and checking out our MySpace page!

Reader's Digest Gets on the Bandwagon

Among the press coverage we've received from Manhunt is the latest bit of national exposure a blurb in an upcoming Reader's Digest. We're famous! I'll let you know when it's in print.

Postering and Card-Dropping

How are the efforts going? I've got a lot more where they came from.

Manhunt Crescent Recap

So I hear the turn out wasn't too big for the Crescent game on September 23rd. Did the clubbers and tourists scare you guys off? Well truth be told it was a combination of poor weather, Rosh Hashana and pig roasting (yes, at the same time) that kept many of our regulars away and newcomers from checking us out. I hear a good time was had at any rate, and I'm confident the numbers will pick up for the next round!

Manhunt September 23rd

Return to Crescent

Time to confuse American tourists, gino clubbers and frantic shoppers once again! We're returning to Crescent Street for another fun-filled round of Manhunt Saturday September 23rd at 5pm. We'll meet at Crescent and Rene-Levesque. Check out our map for the boundaries.

We've started a postering and card-dropping initiative all over town, so let me know if you wanna help out. Keep hitting up that MySpace page and we'll see you on the 23rd!

Manhunt Ghetto Recap

It was a cold and damp day on September 9th for our Ghetto game, so a few players shied away for the first game, but our numbers increased for Game 2. We discovered a terrific playing area and will be sure to return there shortly. We got off to a slow start on the first game, but the second game had as many thrills, chills and spills as we've come to expect from our favourite Saturday afternoon round of urban hide-and-seek. Business cards and posters were handed out to players, who in turn plan to blitz the area with word of the hunt. Thanks guys for your help and generous contributions (and yes, I actually did spend the money on strippers).

Calling all Manhunters!

Hey hunters... if you love Manhunt as much as I know you do, we're asking for a wee bit of help in keeping this ball of fun rolling. Let's market the shit out of it!

Anyone who wants to help out with designing posters, putting posters up, amping up the website, spreading the word or even just chucking in buck or two to pay for a few supplies to make this stuff happen, please e-mail me at manhunt.montreal@gmail.com. A few minutes of your time could really help get in massive numbers-- and we all know that the more prey we have, the more fun it is to hunt!

Thanks, kids!

Amy

Next Round: September 9th

Manhunt McGill Ghetto

It's back to school season, and that can only mean one thing... time to play Manhunt in the Ghetto!

Let's frighten some froshies and hunt their asses down, Manhunt styles! Meeting point will be at the McGill gates on University Street at 5pm. Check out the boundaries on our trusty map. Bring your classmates, bring your friends. Everyone's invited except Michael Dascal. Let's start the school year off with a bang.

Keep hitting up that MySpace page and tell your friends!

Manhunt Chinatown Recap

Manhunt Gets a Second Wind!

Wow! What a great round. We had a strong turnout of over 30 people this week, confirming our hopes that Manhunt is going to build up again in the fall. Chinatown proved to be the dirtiest, stinkiest place we've played in thus far, but that didn't stop us from our urban sports mission. It made us smelly, but it made us strong.

We were pleased to be joined by some manhunters from Edmonton who have been playing the game in different cities and provided some insight into our differences and similarities. Personally, I'm inspired to go on Manhunt tour. Anyone wanna hop in the van? :)

August 12th Round-Up

Goodbye Hunter!

A return to one of our favourite stomping grounds proved to be a perfect place to chase down our dear friend Adair before he left to hunt men in foreign lands. It was perfect hunting weather and a few newcomers came out to join us. A good time was had by all, particularly one hunter who took the opportunity to doze on a park bench and woke up an hour later, dazed, confused\u2026 but not caught!

This week also represented the passing of the Manhunt torch. Many thanks to our boys LePhil and Adair for getting the game up and running in Montreal and for creating such a success. I plan to keep the party rolling!

Amy

July 29th revisited

So it turns out I lied, and Adair didn't show up to the game in the village. But this is the real test. Did we create something that can survive the two of us? Is the game fun enough that it will continue to be played when Adair and I pass it on to the next generation? Or is it wholly reliant on our energy? I hope it will outlast us, and I hope you all had a great time even though we weren't there. Tell us about it, keep hitting up the myspace group, and keep emailing us with ideas and thoughts! Spread the word!

LePhil

July 15th revision:

Due to a hectic schedule I don't have the energy to be witty. Of course, I never really have been all that amusing, so no one but myself will notice. Suffice to say, the game was great. Their were more alleyways and parking lots then ever before, and the game had the usual high energy. I have to say the gang is great, and I hope we'll see you all again. P

July 1st Info

To my eternal shame I chose not to attend this event, choosing instead to watch a World Cup Soccer game. Worst of all, I know I would make the same choice again. Adair hosted the event, and tells me that turnout was somewhat low, I imagine it was for the same reason I wasn't there. Still, by all accounts what they lacked in numbers they made up for in enthusiasm!

The Hour

The Hour conducted a quick phone interview with LePhil and should be out in print by now. So check it out!

MySpace

Adair set up a MySpace account, so sign up and chat away about how you intend to hunt people down and crush their spirits, in a friendly way of course. The link is on the left.

Manhunt the movie?

Thanks to everyone who showed up for the video shoot! For those of you who weren't there, a woman named Lexi filmed the game in action (albeit a miniature version) and did some interviews. As I understand it, it's a sort of demo for a TV show called 'Cool Hunters,' and since we hunt and are intensely cool, we fit the bill! She'll probably be forwarding some of the shots so that we can put them up on the website. We wish her all the best!

June 17th Write up

So we finally experienced a sunny Manhunt. Far from the huge crowd I expected, very few people showed up. I can only assume that people have come to believe that this is a game that can only be played in the rain and chose not to come out, in effect, the game was sunned out. Well there may have only been twenty of us, but it was great fun. The St. Laurent street sale added a quite a bit to the experience. Nothing quite like hunting someone down in huge crowds to spice up an already terrifying game! Thanks all for showing up, and tell all your friends.

Minutes from Manhunt June 3rd

Another rainy manhunt day, there seems to be a plot from the almighty to keep us hunters well soaked while we play this silly game. Many suggestions were made about trying to reorganize on different days, or perhaps setting up a dummy day to deke out God. Needless to say that idea isn't on the program, so we'll just have to settle for running around a little wet. Remarkably turnout continues to be good. The park was a success, what it lacked in hiding places it made up for in sheer size. We had an official photographer wandering around taking action shots, and we're looking forward to seeing them! We're thinking of staggering parklands with urban spaces since both of them seem to have their attractions. As usual the party was a great, thanks to everyone for coming out!

May 20th Manhunt memo

The Game was fantastic! Having rained all day we were expecting very poor turnout, but once again the peoples will to play silly games outshone Gods desire to make us wet. A lot of new people showed up and everyone had a great time, or so they told me anyway. We attracted a much different crowd from the last - those who'd heard about it over email, blogging and media. A couple of children showed up, who introduced all us grown-ups to the magics of bush-hiding. The BBQ was a lot of fun, where people exchanged stories of misadventures and booze in equal amounts, (un)fortunately there were no children there to be introduced to the evils of drinking. Friends were made, hot dogs were cooked, and plans were hatched for bigger and better Manhunts to come.

May 6th Manhunt report:

Despite the bleak and grey weather we had double the turnout as last time! This game seemed to involve far more strategizing as hunters went about in groups and carefully laid traps for the fugitives. On the other hand far more people managed to escape then ever before! (the ever before being... last week) Wether it be in a hobo screen, made from pieced together random newspapers, or simply having stood behind an innocuous tree for half an hour. We were privileged to have been joined by a reporter and photographer from the Montreal Gazette, so keep an eye out for that upcoming article! The after party continues to be popular. Everyone seems to agree that the best way to meet people seems to be sharing a drink, after having been desperately running from them down a dark alleyway only to be thrust up against the wall and converted to the league of the hunters.

Thanks to everyone for having come out, keep spreading the word, and we'll see you at the next Manhunt!

LePhil

The Web-site is up!

Huge thanks to Julien for setting up the domain!

Urban Sports

If anyone knows of any games of Capture the flag or dodgeball, or any of that other jazz, let me know and we'll post it here on the site. Games of soccer or ultimate frisbee in the parks are also postable materials.
