Being Defensive

I love how we blame people for being slow and unable to adapt, as if we’re different than them, better than them.

I can actually really empathize with people aren’t willing to jump ship for the new thing. They have resources set up in infrastructure, mouths to feed, and employees that can only do the old thing. Of course they act the way they do.

The answer is easy for those who don’t have the ships– they can start fresh when there’s nothing to lose. But one day, when they’ve made their fortune and gotten stuck in their ways, they’ll start getting defensive, too, just like the old guys we’re criticizing now. They’ll have mouths to feed, too.

Are you getting on the defensive? Remember, it will happen.

One Response to “Being Defensive”

  1. CT Moore Says:

The 45th law of power is Preach the Need for Change, but Never Reform too much at Once:

Everyone understands the need for change in the abstract, but on the day-to-day level people are creatures of habit. Too much innovation is traumatic, and will lead to revolt. If you are new to a position of power, or an outsider trying to build a power base, make a show of respecting the old way of doing things. If change is necessary, make it feel like a gentle improvement on the past.

And this, I think, is precisely why the MSM isn’t completely fucked. They’ll adapt, they’ll change, and they’ll get over it. But it will take some time.
