And so begins a lifelong love of land art

Also of interest: About Sculpture

I was introduced this week to the absolutely fascinating Andy Goldsworthy, some of whose work is pictured at right. What he builds is probably among the most fascinating work I have ever seen.

Land art is work that has been set free from the boundaries of galleries, and set free by natural conditions such as weather and the tides. Once you see it, I feel it’ll change how you think about sculpture.

I spent some time researching land art after seeing Rivers and Tides, the film Andy is portrayed in, and also came across the amazing South African artist Strijdom van der Merwe, whose work is just as impressive. Do yourself a favour and check out both of these guys.

Pssssst, are you new here? You might want to pick up my RSS feed, it'll let you know when I put up new stuff. Thanks!

That’s so weird: I have no idea why I wrote my previous comment in French.

Not that there’s anything wrong with that. ;-)

I’ll definitely watch it. I just need to do it early in the evening because it looks so contemplative, I’m afraid I’ll fall asleep.
