Going to the Gala Montreal Underground nominations pre-event tonight. Expect to see some coverage from Alex and myself about that in the near future.
I saw an interview with Canibus recently from when he was still in Iraq (I think it was in Mugshot). The one thing I remember clearly from it is that Bis said he felt kind of trapped by his fans, like he always had to step it up with the vocab since he knew all [...]
Apparently, I’ve decided that ending my weekend by creating an anagram transit map of Montreal is a good thing. I can’t believe I participated in this thing. Even worse, I can’t believe I even finished it. Two hours later and it’s done. This is due entirely to the fact that
Boris, Patrick, Michael, Ella (in her vlog debut), and myself being filmed by Steven at a local hipster techno joint. I actually do not monopolize the camera in this clip, much to my own surprise. :)
I made this mix earlier this morning – it’s amazing what a difference waking up early makes! Too bad I had to wait for FedEx all day. Deltron 3030 – ‘Mastermind’ (Amazon) Blood of Abraham – ‘Paranoia is Awareness’ (Amazon) Ghostface Killah – ‘Milk Em’ (eMusic) Self Scientific – ‘Change Pt. 1′ (eMusic) Vakill – [...]
Have you read a good podcasting book? Are you writing a podcasting book, or have you written one? I’m looking for the best podcasting books available – I currently have O’Reilly’s Podcasting Hacks and ordered my friend Dan Klass’ Podcast Solutions, which he wrote with Michael Geoghagan. So if you’ve read one and you can [...]
definition: verb: drop science, drop knowledge To demonstrate wisdom or skill. “And yo, I’m droppin’ science like a school text book” — Tragedy the Intelligent Hoodlum (Microphone Check) [1] To “drop knowledge” in my hood means I got a dime on my dick, e.g.: “At college, constantly gettin ‘ bitties to drop knowledge”. Having been [...]
Thanks so much to Alex for pointing me to this collabo between K-Os (“Canada’s premiere hip-hop artist”) and the last radio orchestra in North America, the CBC Radio orchestra, which was documented by CBC’s Zed TV. Check this shit out! P.S.: It’s ok to like hip-hop.
Mark and Bob had a brief chat with me on their most recent episode of Canadian Podcast Buffet in regards to what they’ve dubbed participatory podcasting. The discussion is beginning to grow quite nicely. Join in by subscribing here: XML or iTunes.
A great article in the Regina Leader-Post today about Tod Maffin and his attitudes on the Canadian education system.
I totally have no time today – going to a meeting thingie right now, then going to see my capoeira mestre who’s going to work me to the bone for 3 hours. Seeya! Boom Bap Project – ‘Sounds of the Streets’ (eMusic) Stop Die Resucitate – ‘Love Song’ (Website) Immortal Technique – ‘The Poverty of [...]
A great post that’s being spread around: 20 Ideas For a Great Podcast, which reads more like “20 mistakes most podcasts make.” I’m probably still guilty of some, even after a year and a quarter of making them. I’m continually trying to tighten that stuff up.
I got a call today from Neil Gorman asking me how to produce content for the del.icio.us audio feeds I’ve been talking about in the past couple of days. This is a serious problem; I want this system to be so obvious that you can’t help but think that it’s the easiest, most efficient system [...]
Mark has created a specific feed for the development of the ideas we’ve been talking about.
G7 Welcoming Committee has a podcast, and it rocks. I supported their music a long time ago, playing tracks by Clann Zu (RIP), Bakunin’s Bum, and Greg Macpherson, among others. It’s awesome they have their own thing. Listen Subscribe (iTunes) (Thanks Phil!)
I just wanted to say thanks to everyone that has shown support, either publicly or privately, towards the concept we’re developing to enhance the scope and capabilities of audio commenting on podcasts. I have been thinking about this for a long time, and so to have it start up is really exciting to me. For [...]
I just made myself a Squidoo lens. I don’t even know why – I’m putting things together, but not finding it amazingly convenient so far. Anyone see real value in this? Help me figure it out dammit.
I put an ad up on craigslist yesterday for this very thing, but I figured I may as well ask here. I’m looking for someone who is fluent in Portuguese, a Montrealer, with which I can have some conversations every week or so to help with my fluency in the language. I am absolutely fluent [...]
Ready? It’s time for you to take notes. Today we’re going to put in place a system that will allow podcasters to create and enable conversations with their listeners, without the awful system of audio comments, as it currently exists. (Addendum: Since it came up, allow me to say, before anything, that this concept comes [...]
Tag intersects are once again working on del.icio.us! (See an example here.) We are now moving forward with our plan from way too long ago. Thanks for finally fixing it guys. More on this tomorrow, but for now, I can see that some people are already getting the same ideas. Opening up podcasting to not [...]
Alex and I got together last week to record another collabo podcast – took me forever to get it out though. Apologies about that; I’ve been working on a bunch of paying projects that are taking up my time. Wu-Tang vs. the Indie Culture – ‘Street Corners feat. Solomon Childs and Byata’ (eMusic) Echo Kitty [...]
Congrats to M-C for her mention on the CBC Radio 3 blog. It’s always cool when Canadian podcasters like her and I get recognized for what we do by the mainstream media.
Alex pointed me to a piece about hip-hop and violence on CBC.ca yesterday. It talks a bit about 50 Cent and hip-hop, and reminded me on my podcast piece How to Keep Kids Off 50 Cent. Take a look at the article here – I wish I could find a way to comment, but nothing [...]
Q: What is / are your favourite underground hip hop podcast / podcasts? (Note: This isn’t a trick question.) Do you only listen to mine, or do you listen to others? I’m looking for a resource on the web, and I can’t find one, so you and I are going to make one together.) Goal: [...]
I’ve been using kGTD for the last little while, on and off. It’s a great little set of scripts to use with OmniOuliner Pro, yes, but was it worth the purchase price? That, I’m not quite sure yet. (At least I paid the student price.) Anyway, I’m looking for some OmniOutliner Pro tutorials on the [...]
I just figured out I have a Last.FM page (thanks ba). I’m still not sure how the service works, but feel free to sign up as a fan if you’re into it.
I just finished a conversation by email about how to ensure that an organization’s podcast would remain ‘podsafe’, though I didn’t use the term (if there even is one in French). For those Googling for a good resource, I figured I would add my voice to the choir with the following tips, good for anyone [...]
Those that know me, know how upsetting this is.
